ESPERANCE Shire Council has agreed in last month’s full council meeting to allocate funding towards sending a delegation of community and Shire representatives to Esperance’s twin town in France, St Martin de Re.
A maximum of four shire councillors or staff members will be able to take part in the trip, which will help to re-establish the bonds between the towns and celebrate the 20 year anniversary of the Twin Towns.
It was also decided that community groups who were in the best position to advance cultural, tourism, recreational, educational or economic ties between the two towns should be approached by the Twin Towns Committee to nominate a delegate.
The groups considered to be the most appropriate were the Lions Club of Esperance, the Esperance Chamber of Commerce, the Esperance Regional Tourism Association, Alliance Francais Esperance and the Esperance Senior High School.
The Shire will decide at next week’s full council meeting on the amount of money they will be able to subsidise for each delegate on the trip.
