Waste Management Plan Up For Comment

8/08/2008 1:22:00 PM
AFTER months of gathering information Esperance people will now have the opportunity to have their say on the draft Regional Waste Management Plan.

The shires of Esperance, Kalgoorlie, Dundas and Coolgardie have come together under the guidance of the Department of Environment and Conservation to produce the strategic plan in reducing waste.

It aims to provide strategies and actions to guide local Governments and communities to improve waste management practices as part of a bigger state plan called Towards Zero Waste.

Shire Recycling Promotions Officer Georgia Ryan said everyone is welcome to attend the workshop to view and comment on the proposals.

“The plan will interest many sectors of the community, especially households and industries which regularly use landfill and recycling facilities in the Shire of Esperance.”

Topics the workshop will cover include improvements to recycling yields and reducing waste to landfill, finding solutions for environmental issues at Wylie Bay. Post closure management plans of Wylie Bay and Condingup landfills, and recycling options for e-waste, hazardous waste, greenwaste, construction, commercial and industrial waste.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, August 18 at the Council Chambers on Windich Street from 5pm to 6.30pm.

Those who would like to attend please RSVP Deb Coles by August 14 on 9071 0675 or email debbie.coles@esperance.wa.gov.au.

If you would like more information about the workshop, please contact Shire Engineering Services, on 9071 0675 or view the plan at www.esperance.wa.gov.au.
