THE Festival Of The Wind (FOW) committee is currently seeking expressions of interest from local artists and craftspeople to undertake a commission for a public artwork to be located along the Esperance Bay foreshore walk trail.
The concept is to complement the popular trail with a series of artistically created and inspired seats, with a new piece being commissioned with each Festival.
FOW committee member, Harriot Mair, said the project had arisen following a meeting with community members earlier this year.
“One of the outcomes from the meeting was that local community members wanted to see more public art in Esperance,” Ms Mair said.
Ms Mair said it was also important to the community that the opportunity was made available for local artists.
“We are really keen to encourage local people to get involved, as opposed to outside artists,” she said.
Ms Mair said it was also a great opportunity for those who may not consider themselves artists – such as woodworkers or metalworkers.
A landscape architect, Ms Mair said she has had previous experience with projects involving public art.
Applicants will need to provide detailed documentation of their proposal in accordance with the project brief, including concept drawings and a maquette.
The project has been supported by the Shire, and there are also sponsorship opportunities for local businesses looking to become involved.
