ESPERANCE Police have acted quickly following a spree of break and enters over the weekend, arresting six people on Sunday afternoon in relation to the thefts that included items such as laptops, digital cameras, jewellery and a motor vehicle.
Esperance police Senior Sergeant Paul Humphries said his officers first became aware of the crime spree on Sunday morning following reports of several break-ins around the Pink Lake area, one of which involved a stolen vehicle.
“We started identifying possible persons of interest on Sunday afternoon,” Snr Sgt Humphries said.
“It was these inquiries that led us to discover two female offenders with the stolen vehicle.
“After interviewing the two female offenders, we were able to gain the identity of several other offenders, and subsequently all the individuals involved in the burglaries were arrested by Sunday afternoon.
“At this stage be believe that six houses were broken in to, but that figure may change – obviously we are waiting for more people to come forward.”
Six individuals – two adults and three juveniles – were charged with a range of offences, including aggravated burglary, stealing, and stealing a motor vehicle.
Senior Sergeant Humphries said he was pleased Esperance police were able to respond so quickly to the burglaries.
“We were quite happy we were able to identify the offenders so swiftly in relation to these series of offences.”
